Survived and thrived and sometimes connived. Believed, belied, cried, died, spied. Grew new things through old skin. Sank in. Dreamed, schemed, redeemed this ticket for a quick trip through a fairy tale thicket. Wolves and lions followed my trail, my wail, my penchant to fail. Feet moved leaves, smoothed trees, covered my tracks, kept me looking back at my disappearing tail. Like spring, I ran fast and green, kept my nose clean. Screamed like a stream, babbled like a brook. Got tired of talking water, changed my name, looking for fame. Woke up with a tiger waiting to be tamed. Shed my shame, left the blame, headed out west to learn a new game. Counted the ships, the stars, the tips of the continents I missed. Counted the times these hips were dismissed. Drove up and over the mist of the coast, looking for ghosts and who misses who most. Spoke out loud, like i was speaking to a crowd when it was just fence posts. Mailboxes, broken locks, empty remote control black boxes. But my voice reached the spaces in between the holes in the sidewalks and cracks in the screen. I sounded somehow angry and serene. Innocent and obscene. Over heard and under seen.
